What type of medical care and facilities are located at camp? Camp Discovery is staffed with various medical professionals including Dermatologist and Nurses. Camp Knutson is equipped to handle daily medical care regimens and medical emergencies.
Who will take care of my child’s medication and health needs while at camp? All medications that your child will need are kept in a secured area, except for lotions and creams your child may use during the day. The medical staff is assigned to specific campers to ensure that their medications are given and health care needs are met. Two medical forms will be sent out for the parent or guardian to fill out so we can get to know your child’s medical needs before he or she arrives at camp.
What will my child do if they cannot or choose not to participate in a camp activity? Our staff and counselors understand that each camper has varying degrees of interest and ability for camp activities. If a camper chooses not to participate in an activity, the child may be placed in another group during that activity and/or an alternative will be found.
What about cabin arrangements? Campers are placed in cabins based on age, sex and health care needs. If your child has been to camp before, we will keep your child in the same group as previous years, unless otherwise specified. Counselors and medical staff sleep in the cabins near the campers to assist with any medical needs.
Can I volunteer at Camp Discovery?
Each year many medical staff
and counselors are needed to help make Camp Discovery a success. Most
of the medical staff are dermatologist and nurses with experience in
dermatology. Counselors that volunteer at Camp Discovery have skin
diseases themselves and can provide support to campers. If you are
