Jamarcus

Jamarcus loved being at camp and loved all of his friends. Camp filled his life with incredible joy and happiness that he shared with his family, friends and teachers. He looked forward to each year and would start to talk about it with excitement for months ahead of time with enthusiastic anticipation. Those of us who knew him saw him blossom and bloom over the years, he was a sweet, fine, loving, funny, and kind young man. We will miss him terribly.... We will always feel his presence surround us with the memory of his joy, smiles, generous hugs and laughter. I know we will honor his life in our hearts for always but also with a dedication when we are all together next summer. Our moments with the ones we love are so precious, may we always cherish and celebrate the special time we share together.

Jamarcus Wilson was one of the most friendly, funny, and inspiring people I know. He spent his whole life living with a skin disorder that put him at odds with his peers and yet he never complained. In fact I never saw him without a smile on his face. He loved Camp Discovery more than life itself and looked forward to it all year. He loved to take photographs and spend time with his friends. He also always made it a priority to keep in touch with his camp friends throughout the year. He would call me every so often and tell me how he was doing and what sort of trouble he was getting into and he never forgot to send me his school pictures. He had several other health problems associated with Ichthyosis and yet he lived a more fulfilling life than most people can even dream of. I miss his laugh, and his sneaky smile, but most of all I miss his hugs...and the way he always made me happy even when things seemed hard. Jamarcus was only a year younger than I am...and his life is over...and that is something that is hard to imagine but I know I'll get through that we all will...because just having the opportunity to know Jamarcus and to catch his lively spirit...is enough to give anyone hope. His life will continue to give joy to his friends and family and to all those who continue to live with their skin disorders. He has now become one of our many Camp Discovery "Angels" and he will live on in my heart forever.
